Introduction:
The Zambian Association for Children with Disabilities (ZACD)
A dedicated non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of
children with disabilities. Established in 2008, the organization gained formal
registration with the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) in
2019, solidifying its mandate to serve as a vital support system for children
with mobility challenges across Zambia. ZACD focuses primarily on providing
essential mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers, enabling
children with disabilities to overcome barriers to mobility and actively
participate in their communities.
The organization operates from its Secretariat, strategically located at Plot #
BP 003/09 Great North Road, just beyond the SOS Children’s Village in
Lusaka. This location serves as a hub for coordinating its programs,
engaging stakeholders, and distributing mobility aids to those in need.
Through partnerships with local and international donors, as well as
collaboration with the government and other non-governmental
organizations, ZACD continues to advocate for the rights and inclusion of
children with disabilities, ensuring they lead dignified and empowered lives.
Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus
Spina bifida, a birth defect affecting the spinal cord, and hydrocephalus, characterized by
excessive fluid in the brain, are addressed through
mobility aids and referrals to medical services.
ZACD helps children manage these conditions to
improve their independence and quality of life.

Cerebral Palsy:
A group of movement disorders resulting from
damage to the developing brain. ZACD
provides customized mobility aids such as
standing frames and special chairs to enhance
the functional capabilities of children with
cerebral palsy.

Congenital Malformations:
This includes structural anomalies present at
birth, such as limb deformities or joint
abnormalities. ZACD produces and supplies
adaptive equipment tailored to the unique needs
of children with these conditions, enabling them
to engage more fully in daily activities.
